Anyone here remember that there is a Senate race happening in Georgia next week? Just thought I'd ask - just in case anyone is actually still interested in...you know...working and stuff.
If you'd like to take a break from writing your "Breaking: Obama Takes A Dump" kind of diary, and plug back in for a few days, go on over to http://my.barackobama.com and download some GOTV calls for Martin.
Since this is a special election, and we have absolutely no idea who will win - turning out the highest number of voters possible is critical.
And if we only had a way to tap tens of thousands of volunteers across the country and get them to help make calls this weekend?
Oh, wait. We do! It is called the netroots. Maybe, just maybe, we can all take a break from eating and wringing our hands over Obama's every move to keep....I don't know? Working? Maybe?
Like many of you, I have a busy schedule ahead of me this weekend. Driving to Maine in about an hour. Tonight I'll be heading out to meet some old friends from high school in the Old Port. Then there's tomorrow of course. Friday and Saturday there are parties and functions to attend. Oh, I also have to finish writing the script for a tv spot for a political ad for a friend of mine.
But come Sunday, I am going to be on the phone making Get Out the Vote Calls for Jim Martin. And I suggest that the rest of you step up and do the same. That is if you still want to lay claim to the whole 'leaving it on the road' thing.
And for the record, I want to say that I think it is absolutely fucking shameful the way that people on this site have lost sight of this race. There seems to be an awful lot of bitching on this site lately, I am going to do a bit of bitching myself. But it isn't the kind of 'arm chair' quarterbacky type bitching. I am not going to talk about Obama's appointments or the fact that that asshole from Conn. still has his chairmanship.
No, it is more like the former campaign field organizer/kick in the ass/shut-the fuck-up-or get-out-of-my-office-because-your-talking-is-distracting-people-who-are-working type bitching.
You see back in the days when I used to run campaigns, I learned a few valuable lessons. One is that when push comes to shove, I am not a very good candidate myself because I tend to speak my mind, and that makes some sensitive neophyte types 'upset' or 'angry'. I don't care. Because I like winning better than I like losing. Another lesson I learned is that there are two types of volunteers. Those who like to work and those who like to talk.
The ones who like to talk alot - the ones who usually talk and bullshit so much that they interfere with volunteer activities - those are usually self-important men who like to sit around the office and pontificate. And the ones who usually sit down and get right to work - those tend to be the women.
Prior to November 4, this site was filled with many inspiring diaries calling people to action. And so many people responded.
But apparently, since November 4 - most of those people seemed to have taken a holiday from DailyKos (and most of the people left here have taken a holiday from working) I don't know where they are - but I wish they'd come back and help out. Because you know, we are only one or two votes away from 60. And a whole bunch of phone calls would be very helpful because in special elections like this - the outcome will almost certainly be determined by the size of the GOTV operation.
And 60 votes would be nice because then when the time comes to vote on some stuff - like say, national health care legislation, or EFCA, or a long list of extremely important bills - we are going to need all of the votes we can get.
Oh, and before I go I just want to say word for the handful of dunderheads who like to respond to my diaries with snide comments and complaints: say whatever the hell you want about me - but only as long as you promise that at some point between now and next Tuesday you will get off your ass and start working again.
Otherwise skip this diary and get back to writing your "Breaking: Obama Takes a Dump" diary.
